About Me

As a 12 yr. old child I began making clothes for myself.  My wedding dress was my own handi-work and when there were girls of my own, they had clothes made by Mom.  While keeping full time employment away from home, I began sewing for the public, and became established as DBA "Stitches 'n Styles".  My youngest Daughter's wedding dress and her six Bride's Maid's dresses were my own accomplishments.

After three handsome Grandsons, I got my first and only beautiful Granddaughter who became endowed with pretty little dresses made by Grandma!

When I bought a new DSM ( domestic sewing machine) I decided to try my hand at piecing a quilt from the fabric left over from all the little dresses.  It became "humongous" only because I didn't know what to do with it except keep piecing!  Finally, it got stuffed into a drawer, not knowing it's future!

As I became more informed and intrigued by piecing and quilting, I finally was fortunate to be able to purchase my first quilting machine on a frame.  It had only a 6 in. quilting space, but I was in heaven and loved the meandering stitch!  I soon tired of that and wanted to learn newer and more detailed ways to quilt.

Quilting became my passion, my therapy, my life.  For a few years I sold my quilts at a local Craft Fair which was held annually.  That became a "drudge" because I was spending the whole year replenishing my inventory and had no time to enjoy the art of quilting or learn new styles and techniques.

I graduated to an official long arm quilting machine on a 10 ft. frame (vs. a 12 ft. only due to the floor space available.)   My name "Stitches 'n Styles" may not sound appropriate for a quilting business, but it seems to have stuck.  I have paying customers whom I greatly appreciate.  I belong to a guild which is an auxiliary to "The Giving Quilt, Inc." and I quilt a very large number of the quilts which have been pieced by other members.  TGQ donates quilts to organizations such as hospitals, soldiers, nursing homes, hospice, YWCA, organizations who care for children who have suffered severe trauma or have been removed from their homes, as well as other similar organizations.  A few of these quilts are shown in the tab under "Charity Quilts".

Well, friends, I won't be talking much about myself on my blog, so this is about it in a nut shell!

(Yes, the "humongous" baby dress quilt finally got quilted and given to my Granddaughter!  And yes, it's WAY bigger than a normal king sized quilt!  )
